Rescue efforts begin after deadly Indonesian Earthquake

Rescue operations are underway after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit Indonesia's Aceh province, flattening houses and causing landslides. Officials say at least 22 people were killed and more than 200 injured in the quake, which struck western Sumatra Island on Tuesday. Indonesia is located on one of the most seismically active regions on Earth. Dispatch agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said "So far, 22 people have died, 210 people were injured, and thousands of buildings and homes were damaged in the quake". Police and soldiers have been deployed in rescue operations, but have struggled to reach some areas where roads are blocked by landslides, officials said. The Indonesian Air force have deployed a helicopter and a plane to assist rescue efforts. Officials said the quake was felt for around 15 seconds.
