France: Eifell tower was evacuated earlier today due to bomb alert

The Eifell tower in Paris was evacuated by police earlier today following a bomb alert at the famous landmark. The 324-meter iron tower was cleared at around 2pm local time and, after being closed for over two hours and after a police search, the site was re-opened to tourists. French media reports that the bomb alert was triggered after an anonymous call was received, indicating the presence of a suspicious package. The tower, which was built in 1989, regulary receives bomb threats; but these are usually quickly found to be hoaxes and full-scale evacuations only occur a couple of times a year.
