A huge fire has broken out at the main international airport in the Kenyan Capital Nairobi. Cabinet secretary for transport Michael Kamau said the fire was "very, very severe" and urged people to stay away from the airport. The entire site has been evacuated, the interior ministry tweeted, with only essential personell remaining; but added that the fire had now been contained. The fire at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, an important regional hub for East Africa, began at approximately 05.00 local time. Kenyan authorities have promised a full investigation into the cause of the fire, saying as soon as it is put out, teams will move in. Speaking about the incident, Mutea Iringo, a senior official, said: "We are doing everything possible to avert a crisis", adding: "Apart from emergency landings, all flights into and out of JKIA have been cancelled". People have been urged to stay away from the airport.
