Malian elections go to a run-off

Mali's elections for a new leader, which follow a military coup, an Islamist seizure of part of the country and a French military intervention, will go to a run-off it has been announced. No candidate received the 50% vote majority required for victory. A second-round ballot between former Prime Minister Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and ex-Finance Minister Soumaila Cisse will take place on 11 August. The election is intended to restore democracy in the African country after 22 months of unrest.
