Italian Priest gives Pope Francis a 20-year old car to drive around the Vatican
An Italian priest has given Pope Francis a 20-year-old white Renault car to drive himself around the Vatican city. Father Renzo Zocca presented the vehicle, which has already driven 300,000 km, to the Pope at the weekend. The pontiff, known for his humble lifestyle, later drove the car, and said he used to drive the same make in his native Argentina. Father Zocca said he was moved by the Pope's effort to create "a church for the poor", and told a Italian news magazine that he wanted to give him a gift, adding: "What better than my old Renault 4?" The Priest also told Famiglia Cristiana magazine that he was surprised to receive a phone call from the pontiff accepting the car as a gift. In a bid to encourage austerity in the Church, Pope Francis has urged officials to avoid using expensive limousines.
