Australia: One killed, many more hurt in unrest at detention centre

One person has been killed and over 70 people have been injured after violence broke out at an Australian detention centre for Asylum Seekers.

The Australian Immigration Minister Scott Morrison says order has now been restored at the centre near Papua New Guinea, and told reporters: "This was a very dangerous situation where people decided to protest in a very violent way".

Australia's government said detainees breached fences at facilities on Manus Island, which CNN reports is several hundred kilometres northeast of mainland Papua New Guinea.

One man died of head injuries on the way to hospital.

Of those injured, thirteen suffered serious injuries, and the Immigration Minister said the injuries were incurred outside of the detention camp after the men broke out.
