Protesters in the Ukrainian capital Kiev have been told that President Viktor Yanukoych has resigned.
According to Sky News Correspondent David Bowden who is in a hotel overlooking Independence square - which has been the scene of mass protests against Mr Yanukovych and his decision not to forge closer ties with the EU - the news was announced at just after 13.10 GMT (London Time).
The announcement to protesters comes after AFP news agency reported that a "Ukraine lawmaker says President Vanukovych has promised to resign".
The location of President Yanukovych is not known; he is reported to have fled the capital Kiev where his Presidential offices have been seized by protesters, and one aide told a news agency he was in the East of Ukraine.
Anger at him began after he decided to chose closer ties for his country with Russia, rather than the European Union.
Protests became increasingly violent in the past week, with over 75 people reported to have been killed as police in riot gear and protesters clashed in Kiev and there were reports of police snipers shooting on protesters.
