A minister who was in the government of Muammar Gaddafi has been sentenced to death by a Libyan court. Ahmed Ibrahim was found guilty of inciting violence against protesters who were demonstrating against Colonel Gaddafi during the 2011 uprising. In a first such ruling against a Gaddafi-era official, a court in Misrata found Mr Ibrahim guilty of undermining national security and plotting the killing of civilians, his lawyer told news-agency Reuters. He also told the news organization that Libya's supreme court would have to confirm the ruling before the death penalty was implemented. Ahmed Ibrahim held several senior positions in the Gaddafi leadership, including education minister. According to Reuters, he was captured by rebels during the 2011 uprising in Gaddafi's hometown of Sirte.
