UN Chemical weapons inspectors to visit sites in Syria

The Syrian government has allowed UN investigators to visit three sites where chemical weapons have allegedly been used in the country, the UN has said. The inspectors will go as "soon as possible", a statement from the office of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon said. They are expected to investigate three locations of suspected use including one in Khan al-Assal; an area which was at the center of allegations in March that chemical weapons had been used their - with both sides of the conflict accusing each other for the attack. The UN has not identified the other two sites to be investigated. The news that investigators will be allowed access to the areas follows negotiations between the Syrian government, UN disarmament chief Angela Kane and head chemical weapons inspector Ake Sellstrom last week in Damascus.
