Iraq: Baghdad hit by more bombings - 44 people killed

A series of co-ordinated bombings in the Iraqi capital Baghdad have killed at least 44 people, police and medical personell say. In yet another wave of deadly attacks in the country, the bombs targeted mainly Shia-muslim neighborhoods during the rush hour. In addition to the deaths, dozens of people are said to have been injured. The deadliest explosion in Wednesday's attacks was reported to have been in Jisr Diyala, where a car bomb killed at least seven people. So far this year, 4,000 civilians have been killed and 10,000 more have been wounded in violence in Iraq, with UN figures showing July 2013 saw the killings of 1,057  Iraqi's - making it the deadliest month in the country for years.
