Iraq: Fresh wave of bombings claims the lives of 46

At least 46 people have been killed in a new wave of bombings to hit Iraq, police and medical personell say. One of the worst affected areas was the city of Baquba, where there were reports of four bombings. Two of those blasts were said to have targeted a Shia-muslim wedding, amid high tensions between the Shia and Sunni muslims in the country. Sunni Muslims claim they are being marginalized by Prime Minister Nouri Maliki's Shia-led government. In the capital Baghdad, at least nine people were killed in several different blasts - including one inside a coffee shop, car bombs and a roadside bomb. In Balad, a town north of the capital, at least four people died in a car bomb blast which happened as a judge drove past - local police say he was among those injured. Five soldiers died when their vehicle was fired on after being stopped at a fake checkpoint, according to police, in an attack near the city of Monsul. Violence in the country has killed over 4,000 already this year, with violence during the holy month of Ramadan leaving 670 dead alone.
