Liberia: All Students Fail University Admissions Exam

Nearly 25,000 school-leavers in Liberia have failed the test for admission to the University of Liberia, one of two-state run universities. Education Minister Etmonia David-Tarpeh told the BBC about her concern at the news: "I know there are a lot of weaknesses in the schools but for a whole group of people to take exams and every single one of them to fail, I have my doubts about that", telling the BBC's Focus on Africa that she intended to meet University Officials to discuss the failure rate of 100%, adding: "Its' like mass murder". However, the University has stood by the exam - which costs a fee of $25 to take - with its spokesman saying it would not be swayed by 'emotion'. President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, recently acknowledged that the education system was still "in a mess".
