Iran's new President Hassan Rouhani has called for "serious and substantive" talks with the International community about the country's nuclear program. Speaking at his first press conference since his inauguration, Mr Rouhani said he was confident both sides' concerns could be resolved in a short time, but added that a solution could only be reached "soley through talks, not threats". He also vowed that his government would be accountable and act transparently, saying he would keep his promise to "report on the progress made and the achievements, as well as the shortcomings and failures", but warned: "Without the peoples support, the government will have no chance of meeting its long-term goals". The United States said on Sunday that Mr Rouhani's Presidency presented Iran with an opportunity to resolve the world's "deep concerns", adding: "Should this new government choose to engage substantively and seriously to meet its obligations and find a peaceful solution to this issue [nuclear program], it will find a willing partner in the United States".
