Obama to seek Congressional authorization for military action in Syria
US President Barack Obama has announced that he will first seek authorization from Congress before US military action in Syria. Speaking outside the White House in the rose gardens, Mr Obama said that he had concluded that America should take military action against Syrian regime targets, saying: "After careful deliberation I have decided the United States should take military action against Syria". He told the World's media organizations: "We are the United States of America. We cannot turn a blind eye to what happened in Damascus". His words came after UN chemical weapons inspectors arrived at the Hague after four days of inspections in Syria. The President addressed his people more than half an hour later than scheduled after apparently talking on the telephone. He asked the people of America: "What message will we send if a dictator can gas hundreds of children to death", calling the alleged chemical weapons use "an assault on human dignity".
