Syria: UN team leaves Syria as World awaits America's next move

The UN team earlier this week.
UN inspectors investigating alleged chemical weapons attacks in Syria have now left the country. The 13-car convoy crossed into Lebanon hours after President Barack Obama said the United States was considering a "limited narrow act" against Syria. During the UN Chemical Weapons inspectors visit, they carried out four days of inspections at sites of alleged usage. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon has said it could be two weeks before their final report is ready. The United States already has its own intelligence assessment, which accuses the Syrian regime of using chemical weapons to kill 1,429 people in rebel-held areas in the suburbs of Damascus. Syria said the US claim was "full of lies", and blamed rebel forces for the attack. Syrian President Bashar Al Assad has said his country will defend itself against any Western "aggression". French President Francios Hollande has reaffirmed his support for the US stance, however Britain - following a vote in Parliament - has pulled out of any military action against Syria. Russia, a key ally of President Assad, has warned that "any unilateral military action bypassing the UN Security Council" would be a "direct violation of international law".
