UN - child soldiers rescued in Congo

82 children, some as young as eight, have been rescued from an armed group in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the UN has said. 40 of the rescued children have been reunited with their families and the others are being cared for. The children, 13 girls and 69 boys, were forcefully recruited by the Mai Mai Bakata Kantanga militants, which operates mainly in the south-east of Congo. The UN 's stabilization mission in the country said in a statement that the children had been identified and separated from the militants, also expressing concern over continuing child soldier recruitment; "We are extremely concerned by continued active reports of active recruitment."
