US: Ariel Castro jailed for life without parole

Ariel Castro has been jailed for life without parole after a court sentencing in which he apologized to the three women he kept captive and subject to both physical and sexual abuse at his sentencing, where one of the women, Michelle Knight, spoke.  The 53-year old Castro was sentenced to life without the chance of parole for aggravated murder by Judge Michael Russo at a court in Ohio.   The former school bus driver has pleaded guilty to 937 charges including kidnapping, rape, assault and aggravated murder. Mr Castro objected  tothe judge's verdict of finding him guilty of aggravated murder - for deliberately making one of the women miscarry after he got her pregnant - despite earlier pleading guilty to the charge. At the hearing, one of his three victims - Michelle Knight - said "I spent 11 years in hell. Now your hell is just beginning", telling her kidnapper, rapist and abuser he faces an "eternity of hell". Castro kidnapped Knight along withAmanda Berry and Gina DeJesus - and fathered a child of Amanda Berry [through raping her]. The women dissapeared separately between 2002 and 2004 at the ages of 14 - 20, and were only released after a decade in captivity when Amanda Berry managed to escape and raise the alarm. If you have a comment on the case or the sentencing, we'd love to hear from you!
