Afghanistan: 'Taliban' fighters attack Western forces base

The Taliban have attacked a US base in Eastern Afghanistan, according to reports, with a series of explosions being reported. No foreign nationals were killed in the morning raid on the Torkham base in Nangarahar province, according to an official. One local official was quoted as saying that the attack triggered a gun battle and Nato helicopters were flying over the base. According to the BBC, A Taliban spokesperson has confirmed to them that they were behind the attack. A Spokesman for the Nangarahar governor, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, has been quoted by the Associated Press as saying the Jalalbad-Torkham road: a key route for Nato vehicle supplies - was closed following the attack.
