The leader of the World's Catholics, Pope Francis, has given Christmas gifts to 2,000 immigrants at the Dono di Maria homeless shelter near the Vatican.
The shelter was founded by Mother Teresa 25 years ago.
Each of the packs contained a Christmas card, signed by the Pope, postal stamps, a pre-paid international calling card and a free day-pass for the Metro transport system in Rome -
Papal almoner Archbishop Konrad Krajewski and sisters who work at the shelter distributed the gifts on behalf of the Pontiff.

What a fantastic initiative the Pope has come up with for people in need - another example that he is passionate about getting rid of all the pomp that surrounds the Vatican and getting down to the basics; the faith itself. His gifts are very well thought out - no throw-away-the-next-day items - but actually useful tools for the homeless immigrants in their hour of need.
