US President Barack Obama is to meet with the Dalai Lama at the White House, despite anger from China who called the plans a "gross interference" in the countries internal affairs.
The private meeting is the first since the two last met in 2011, and will take place in the Map room on Friday morning local time.
China has voiced its opposition to the meeting, with Reuters quoting the Chinese Ministry Spokeswoman Hua Chunying as saying in a statement that the "United States' arrangement for its leader to meet the Dalai would be a gross interference in China's internal affairs" adding it is a "serious violation of the norms of international relations". She added that China "urged the United States to take seriously China's concerns, immediately cancel plans for the U.S to meet the Dalai, do not facilitate and provide a platform for Dalai's anti-China separist activities in the United States".
