Israel military closes Eilat airport

The Israeli military has ordered the closure of Eilat airport until further notice, citing security fears. The Israeli Aviation Authority has confirmed that the airfield, which is near Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, has been closed for landings. All flights due to arrive at the airport have been re-routed. A military spokesperson, quoted by Reuters news agency, said: "Due to security assessments, the Israeli army has instructed Eilat Airport to cancel all arrivals and departures", giving no further details. The airport, which has been the target of attacks in the past, brings tourists to Israel's Red Sea Eilat resort.
