Pakistan Funeral Suicide Bombing: 28 killed
A suicide bombing at a funeral for a policeman in Pakistan has killed 28 people, police say. They say that the blast, which happened in the south-western city of Quetta, also left at least 50 people injured. A local police chief told AP news agency that the bomber detonated his explosives just before the funeral was due to begin, and that no-organization has yet claimed responsibility for the killings. The police also told the AP that Deputy Inspector General of police Fayaz Sumbal, a senior police officer, was among those killed after he spotted the bomber; ordering officers to search the man. The funeral, which was broadcast live by some television channels, was for a policeman who was shot and killed on Thursday; most of those killed and wounded in the funeral explosion were police officers. One witness, Policeman Mohammed Hafiz, told the AFP news agency of what he saw: "I was inside the mosque and we were lining up for the funeral prayers when a big blast took place. I came out and saw injured and dead bodies lying on the ground", adding: "I have no words to describe what I have seen. It was horrible".
